Members enjoyed a superb mouth-watering Cookery Demonstration by Jacky Pugh of Llangurig at their last meeting held in July at Rhayader Leisure Centre. Jacky prepared a number of dishes and after the meeting closed members had the chance to win a dish of food to take home. Dishes included Rhubarb and white chocolate Trifle, Leek and Garlic Gratin, Smoked Salmon Pies, Apple Flapjack puddings and Choc-banana Crumble.
Once again we entered the carnival - this time 'Not everything is Black and White' - we didn't win a prize but as always had a good time.
A trip had been organised by Gwen Jones and Jen Oakley to Powis Castle using the Rhayader Community Minibus in August. There were 12 people and they stopped at Coed-y-Dinas for morning coffee. Despite the showers they enjoyed the gardens and had a lovely meal in the Castle restaurant.
Members gave cakes for the Victorian Festival WI Cake Stall in Llandrindod and helped steward and demonstrate at the County WI exhibition. Visitors from Ludlow thoroughly enjoyed a lovely tea made by members after their walk their walk around the Elan Valley, they gave us 15/10 for the lovely food. We also had a stall at the local Green Fair selling bags and craft items made by the craft group.
Rhayader members were invited to the 60th Anniversary Party for St.Harmon WI held at Dolgerddon, Rhayader where they enjoyed delicious food.
The Notice of NFWI AGM 2011 and resolutions were read and procedures explained to members who were asked to consider if they wished to do propose a resolution for 2012 as there was not really time for 2011.
As a follow up of 2010 Resolution on Country of origin (COOL) food labelling the secretary had written to the Euro MEP and MP for Brecon and Radnorshire.
Shirley Jones explained about Facilitaid and read a news letter she had received, in the past we have knitted small teddies for them to sell.  She also asked members if they could make shawls for premature babies.
Tickets are now being sold for the Fashion Show by Bon Marche at Rhayader Leisure Centre on 24 September. This show will help raise money for Rhayader WI in 2011.
The next meeting will be on Tuesday 28 September when Sue Best and Phil Bowen from the Willow Theatre will be entertaining members and guests from other institutes to have fun with 'The lighter side of Shakespeare'.
