President Jane Narborough welcomed members and three guests to the meeting. Jane reported on the lovely time a group of Rhayader members had on their recent visit to Denman College. One group made jewellery out of silver clay, while another went on a tour of Oxford and studied Tudor History. Ida Davies and another of our Federation Executive members Molly Moore were Chairmen for the weekend.
Vice President Sylvia Richards will present a wreath on behalf of the Institute at the Remembrance Ceremony at Rhayader clock on 14 November.
It was agreed that the secretary would send a letter to our local MP asking him to consider our concerns on the "Future Cessation of Cheques in 2018" and the need, if this does get carried forward, to have a suitable alternative as many people had difficulty with cash and pin cards and also it maid payment of bills difficult for many people.
Arrangements were made to attend the Chinese Auction at Crossgates and the Taste of Christmas at Llanbister and a meeting arranged to discuss our entry for the Christmas Concert at Dolau. Several members expressed an interest in the proposed Inter Federation Sports to be held next September with bowls being the favourite.
Members enjoyed a 'Have a Go' craft night using ceramic pots which they decorated with pretty serviettes to produce decoupage work. The evening was organised by Shirley and Sylvia.
Everyone enjoyed the evening with plenty of concentration and chatter. The competition for 'My favourite House plant' was won by Liz Lloyd, 2nd Morfa Shaw and a tie between Sylvia and Shirley for 3rd place. The raffle was won by Val Evans.
Next month will be the AGM on Tuesday 30 November at 7.30pm at Rhayader Leisure Centre when the competition would be a Limerick.
