80TH BIRTHDAY PARTY
Jane Narborough, President, welcomed everyone to the meeting introducing committee members as there were a number of new members present for the 80th Celebrations. There were only two members unable to attend owing to illness and best wishes were sent for their speedy recoveries. Once the business meeting was completed Jane announced the previous year's competitions, overall winner Sylvia Richards with runner up Liz Lloyd. She then presented Sylvia and Liz with winners' cups and Liz Lloyd was also announced Member of the Year and presented with a Rose Bowl.
The competition was an Easter Card, this would be used for the County Show where it would be one of the classes - 1st Sylvia Richards 2nd Shirley Jones.
After enjoying buffet food the members were entertained by 'Ebony and Ivory' Harmony Group, main singer Melody Haszczyn with harmonies by Del Ho San and Peter Poulson who also played keyboard. They sang a wide range of songs from the fifties up until the present. Del gave members a wonderful taste of a Bob Marley number 'One Love'; everyone clapped along to many of the songs and thoroughly enjoyed the melodic voices.
The President reminded everyone of the fundraising 'Puddings and Poems Evening' that had been organised for Tuesday 15 March in the Wye Lounge at 7.30pm to raise money for local charities as part of our eighty years celebration, tickets were £5 to include a pudding and the doors would be open at 7pm, everyone welcome.
The next meeting will take place on Tuesday 29 March when members will be able to listen to 'A History of Rhayader' by Bryan Lawrence. The competition will be a photograph of an Easter Flower/Flowers.
