A HISTORY OF RHAYADER
The President, Jane Narborough welcomed everyone to the 80th March Meeting of Rhayader WI and introduced the chair for the evening, Mrs Joan Caie, who had been a former president. Members were reminded that Rhayader were providing the refreshments for the ACM in Llandrindod, Liz Lloyd will be attending as delegate. Several members will be attending the Wales Conference in Llanelli. Sylvia reminded members about next month's mini-show and urged everyone to have a go.

After the evening's main business was completed members were introduced to the speaker Bryan Lawrence who said he would start the evening by tracing the former Bwgy stream on its journey through the town. He described the businesses along its route prior to the beginning of the 20th century until recent times. The stream flowed from above Bryntirion School in the hills and down through Lion's field (now Maesmawr), down North Street and West Street to Water Lane where it entered the River Wye.

Members told of their memories of people in these businesses over the years, especially some of the entertaining and interesting characters. The evening proved to be very entertaining with plenty of opportunity to talk to Bryan and ask questions.

Raffle winner was Anne Frier and the competition - a photo of one or more Easter Flowers was won by Shirley Jones, this will now be entered in the County Federation Show in May.
