May Meeting
The guest president for the evening was Shirley Jones and she reminded everyone of the celebrations to take place on Saturday 25 June at 3pm when we would welcome guests from WIs in Powys/Radnor and the Federation Executive together with our AM and MP and local Councillors. All arrangements were now in hand with a special tea and birthday cake arranged.
The Resolutions that were to be taken to the AGM in Liverpool were discussed, these were Mega Farms and the proposed closure of Libraries. These caused a long discussion and members were unsatisfied with the wording of the resolution. The voting would be carried out by a delegate from St Harmon on Rhayader's behalf; however a number of Rhayader Members were going to the AGM in Liverpool.
During the Social time members told stories about their recollections of visits to the AGMs in the 1960's;70's;80's;90's and especially 2000 when Joan Caie witnessed the slow hand clapping of Tony Blair for being political at a non-political meeting. Overall the memories were fun and entertaining especially memories of the Albert Hall and the singing of Jerusalem en masse which was wonderful. Some members remembered the wonderful hats that were worn but no-longer!
The competition for 'My favourite Hat' was won by Morfa Shaw with Julia Farmer and Shirley Jones coming second and third.
