October Meeting
President Jane Narborough welcomed members and guests to the October meeting of Rhayader WI.
The Harvest supper last month was enjoyed by all. It was interesting to hear all about the American Thanksgiving by The Rev. Ron Downey.
The recent Welsh History Evening held by PRFWI at Cwmdauddwr School was well attended and Rhayader members worked hard to prepare the hall and serve teas.
The President, Jane, reminded members of the Craft Show to be held at Rhayader Leisure Centre on 12 November, members would help at the WI stall and will give produce/preserves/crafts to sell. They would also take books to sell and hold a ‘Name the Elephant’ game, the elephant kindly knitted by Joan Caie. Several members had enjoyed the County visit to the Abakhan Fabric warehouse in North Wales coming home with lots of bargains.
Rhayader Players presented a wonderful entertainment entitled ‘Show Time’ with songs from well known musicals starting with the company singing items from ‘Sister Act’ with plenty of oomph! Other items included songs from South Pacific, Les Miserables and Pinball Wizard from ‘Tommy’ sung with plenty of gusto by the local ‘singing vet’ Paul Nally. Very popular was ‘Underneath the Arches’ with Michael Brooks and Alun Mead to which everyone joined in.
The Competition was the ‘Oldest Programme’ and was won by Liz Lloyd for her ‘Dick Whittington’; Morfa Shaw for ‘Sound of Music’ and Angela Auger for ‘Pink String’.
