November Meeting

President Jane Narborough welcomed everyone to the 2011 AGM and the Tellers, from St Harmon WI, Prydwen Price, and Joan Annetts who conducted the Committee Elections, and also Marilyn Thomas our WI Advisor.

The Craft Fair had raised £160.30 with everyone remarking how attractive the stall had been. Several members won prizes at the Chinese Auction and the PRFWI - Raffle was drawn during the County Fashion Show, first prize going to Liz Lloyd’s son-in-law.

President Jane Narborough thanked everyone for coming to the AGM and reminded us that last year the AGM was delayed because of severe weather until December. She said we had anticipated a very busy year with the Rhayader WI 80th Birthday Party and “didn’t we do it in style”. We celebrated from the February birthday party to the tea party in the Leisure Centre in June. The hall looked wonderful and of course the food was wonderful too. Jane thanked the Committee for their hard work, each with their own job but pulling together. She also thanked the past Presidents who she said took the majority of the meetings as she was “off her feet” for a while. She finished by saying, “Thanks to you all, Committee and members, for making our WI good fun and so successful”.

After the voting the 2012 elected committee were announced as Ida Davies, Sylvia Richards, Liz Lloyd, Ruth Hide, Christine Phillips, Margaret Lloyd, Joan Caie, Gwen Jones, Jen Oakley, Jane Narborough, Shirley Jones and Julie Farmer with Mrs Ida Davies elected as President.

The Raffle was won by Viv Williamson and the competition for a Christmas decoration was won by 1. Sylvia Richards 2. Morfa Shaw and 3. Shirley Jones.

We were wonderfully entertained by the “Twurzels” (Gareth, Reg and Geoff) whilst the votes were being counted. They sang numerous songs including “The Rooster Song”, “The Farmer Wants a Wife”, Wurzel Rock”, “The Cider Drinker” and many more. Much clapping and laughing took place. We wish they could have stayed longer. A lovely end to the evening.
