AGM Meeting November 2012

President, Ida, welcomed the members and the tellers to the November AGM. The Minutes of the 2011 AGM were read and agreed, there were no matters arising.

Margaret, our Treasurer, gave her financial report for 2012. The total receipts for the year were £3900.49 and payments £3700.71 leaving a profit of £199.78, therefore a successful year.

Ruth then gave the secretary’s report for the year – a busy one as usual.  In January Sylvia took us on a trip to Arizona with a talk and photos. In February we held our 81st Birthday Party where we all dressed in Red, White and Blue. March saw us making collages/pictures to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee. April saw members attending the ACM in Llandrindod Wells where Kate Bliss talked about 1920’s fashion. The highlight of the year came in May when Rhayader won the County Shield at the Federation Show. It had been 25 years since Rhayader’s name had appeared on the County Shield. Quite a few members attended the AGM in London at the Royal Albert Hall at the end of May. In June we had our photograph taken at Penrally House, a re-enactment of a photo taken there in the 1940’s, being the place the WI used to meet. We had a new modern banner designed by Sylvia which was used on numerous occasions during the summer, including the Carnival Float, Green Fair, and a stall outside ‘The Lamb & Flag’. We had a talk by ‘Shelter Box’ a registered charity set up by the Rotary in July. Shirley arranged a theatre trip to Aberystwyth to see ‘Hairspray’ and Gwen and Jen organised a members’ trip to Broneirion. The Rhayader St John Ambulance gave a talk in September and in October we held a ‘Puddings and Poems’ fund raising evening, which was well attended. Mollie Moore came to our October meeting and took us on a trip abroad in a Vintage Car. Kath Nixon came in November and gave a wonderful demonstration of Christmas Flower arranging. A very enjoyable year.

President, Ida Davies said it had been a quieter year after the celebrations of 2011. She briefly outlined all our events and activities that had taken place during the year, but said a very special moment, was when she was presented with the County Shield at the Federation Show, on Rhayader’s behalf. She said ‘it was undoubtedly the best moment of 2012’. Fundraising and all our usual activities had added up to a fairly successful year. Ida went on to thank the Secretary and Treasurer for all their hard work and concluded by thanking everyone for their help in the last year.

The ballot was then taken for the committee of 2013 and the elected committee are Sylvia Richards, Liz Lloyd, Christine Phillips, Margaret Lloyd, Joan Caie, Gwen Jones, Jen Oakley, Jane Narborough, Shirley Jones, Julia Farmer, Helen Lee and Ruth Hide. Nominations were taken for President and Sylvia Richards agreed to stand.

Forms were handed out to members to vote on which resolution should go forward.to the National AGM in June.  Liz Lloyd spoke briefly on the two subjects 1. Decline of our High Streets and Town Centres and 2. Keeping young people suicide safe on-line. Votes were collected by Ida to be sent to Cheryl the Federation Secretary.

A thank you letter has been received from ‘Shelter Box’ acknowledging our donation. Members were asked to complete the questionnaire in WI Life,  re Denman College and to bring it to the December meeting. It was agreed to contribute £5 towards  the cost of making a quilt to celebrate 90 years of the Powys Radnor Federation. Members were asked to bring a plate of food and a gift for the bran tub costing no more than £1 for the December meeting and reminded the meeting would start at 7pm. Transport for the Christmas Concert on the 2nd December will leave at 1pm from Dark Lane carpark.

Kath Nixon gave a wonderful demonstration on arranging flowers making four beautiful arrangements. Jen thanked Kath for coming and thanked Prydwen Price and Joan Annetts,  our Tellers from St Harmon WI, for the conducting the ballot. She went on to thank Ida for being our President for the last year and for all her hard work. Ida thanked the hostesses for the evening, Sylvia, Liz and Sandra.
